Universal's upcoming Miami Vice movie may have landed its leading dynamic duo.
Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan are in talks to join the adaptation of NBC's iconic '80s series as the Metro-Dade Police Department detectives working undercover in Miami, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
Butler is eyeing the role of James "Sonny" Crockett, originated by actor Don Johnson, while Jordan is interested in the role of Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, originally played by Philip Michael Thomas on the show.
While the film is still in early development, shooting is set to begin next year and Universal has scheduled the theatrical release for Aug. 6, 2027.
Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy have been tapped to write the script, with Dylan Clark and Kosinski producing.
Miami Vice was created by Anthony Yerkovich and ran for five seasons, from September 1984, to June 1989. The movie is inspired by the show's first season and is set to explore the glitz and corruption of mid-'80s Miami.

The upcoming film will be the second film adaptation of the series; series executive producer Michael Mann directed a 2006 movie starring Colin Farrell as Crockett and Jamie Foxx as Tubbs.
Both the Miami Vice TV show and film were very contemporary: The show embodied the '80s with pastel colors and a hit-heavy pop soundtrack, while the film's use of pioneering digital photography, "realistic" take on the material, and use of Audioslave songs reflected the zeitgeist of the mid-2000s. The film grossed $164.2 million worldwide and became a cult favorite.
If Jordan and Butler secure their respective roles, it'll be one of the many high-profile titles the stars have lined up.
