Big Boys lost out to Celebrity Traitors(Image: BBC screengrab)
BAFTA fans said they were "gutted" after a critically acclaimed show missed out this award season.
The TV Awards aired on Sunday night (May 10) on BBC One and were hosted by Taskmaster's Greg Davies.
Channel 4 sitcom Big Boys, about a university student dealing with his dad's death and exploring his sexuality, was up for the Memorable Moment gong. However, it lost out to a moment in Celebrity Traitors.
Many viewers watching the BBC broadcast were unimpressed, posting messages on social media saying that the series was "robbed" and should have won the prize.
The moment was up against comedian Alan Carr's win on Celebrity Traitors, a scene in police drama Blue Lights and scenes in Adolescence and What If Feels Like For A Girl. Last One Laughing was also in the running for the award, which is voted for by the UK public and celebrates moments of on screen magic.
In the Big Boys moment [spoilers], the narrator (Jack Rooke) goes to Margate in the present day and speaks to old friend Danny (Jon Pointing), who teases Jack about his grown-up life. Danny eventually confirms his suspicions with Jack that he hadn't made it, and had actually died.
The two then reminisce upon their friendship with grown-up Jack discussing how sad it was to have lost a friend so young.
BAFTA viewers were not happy to see it lose out, with one writing on X: "Celebrity Traitors moment of the year?! Big Boys made me cry, I still can't make it through that episode without tears rolling down my cheeks. First BAFTA I've not agreed with this year."
"I'm biased because Big Boys is one of the best things I've ever watched, but that 'I didn't make it' clip still makes me cry every time I see it and is defo my winner," said someone else.
Another fan of the series agreed: "Big Boys was robbed. One of the best TV shows I've watched recently and that memorable moment was like a gut punch."
