Princess Eugenie has rung in her 36th birthday with a low-key, private celebration.
The royal was spotted having a quiet dinner at The River Cafe in Hammersmith with only one person invited to join in on the celebrations - her husband Jack Brooksbank.
Her usually close family members, sister Princess Beatrice, mother Sarah Ferguson and father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, were nowhere to be seen.
Eugenie appeared stressed and visibly upset in moments during their meal, a clear sign that the ongoing scandals surrounding her family are taking their toll.
At one point, restaurant staff presented her with a dessert topped with a single candle - a subtle nod to the occasion.
This year is the first time the Princess has kept her birthday low-key. For the last two years, the mum has marked her birthday with posts on social media. Last year, the royal posted a simple snap of her in mum mode with her sons August, 5, and Ernest, 2, along with the caption "birthday besties" and the year before that she celebrated again with a snap of her cradling one of her boys saying, "The best gift of all are my boys.. so on this birthday I'm cherishing family and loved ones."
This year, she skipped the tradition of a larger gathering and commemorating the occasion on social media entirely.
Earlier this month, Princess Eugenie resigned from her role with anti-slavery charity, Anti-Slavery International, where she served as a patron for seven years.
"After seven years, our patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end," the statement from the charity confirmed.
"We thank the Princess very much for her support for Anti-Slavery International. We hope that she continues to work to end slavery for good and deliver freedom for everyone."
Her resignation comes weeks after her father, former Prince Andrew, was arrested on his 66th birthday over his ties to the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The disgraced royal was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office for allegedly passing on confidential trade documents to Epstein.
Released emails revealed Andrew stayed in contact with Epstein years after he said that he'd cut ties. Eugenie's mother Sarah Ferguson also allegedly shared a close relationship with Epstein.
Adding to the family drama are the recent reports that Eugenie's sister Beatrice is also struggling privately in her marriage.
Though the rumours have since been slammed by their team, sources have claimed Beatrice and husband of six years, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have become distant and at times, living separate lives.
"Things haven't been great for a while between them, but Beatrice has been determined to soldier on and forge a path through," an insider told Daily Mail.
Having her husband Jack's support during this troubling time is incredibly important for Eugenie, making their quiet celebration together especially poignant.
